Molea Memorial Monument
The Khanid region is home to one of New Eden’s most interesting sites to visit. In the Molea system, on the first moon of the second planet, pilots can find the Molea Memorial Monument.
In 2007 pilot Azia Burgi started to ‘bury’ corpses in containers in space. Over time these containers started to be placed around a control tower in the same system. When the story of the New Eden graveyard was picked up by CCP, they decided to add a new feature that would help maintain the graves. Secure cargo containers do not despawn after the usual 30 days, but remain in space indefinitely. This way, the memorial graves that were set up around the control tower would be a permanent reminder for those that we have lost.

Details on the Molea Memorial Monument
CCP announced several years ago that control towers were going to be removed from the game. Questions arose what would become of the Molea cemetery. Pilots waited years for official news on what would happen to the Molea control tower. In July of 2020 CCP finally placed the new Molea Memorial Monument on grid of the control tower.
The new monument is made of earth like materials (basaltic columns). These serve the purpose of guarding our fallen capsuleers, represented by the two figures leaving the pod in a ray of light at the center. Every so often a ball of light builds around the capsule before ascending upward towards the stars. Just like the existing control tower, cans dropped within 200km of the site will not despawn. They can however still be destroyed or looted. Adding a password to the container is strongly recommended.
Honoring the deceased
Pilots have traveled from all corners of New Eden to visit the new Molea Memorial Monument. Not only to see the memorial or the massive display of cans, but also to place a can of their own. Whether it’s placing a can with a corpse, or making a ‘tombstone’ for a real-life fallen friend, relative or pet, it’s all possible.
Some capsuleers even add items to the containers, like personal items or other heirlooms. The messages that are attached to the containers and the amount of anchored cans is enough to leave you lost for words.
Mega Synn’s memorial container
My own personal message at the memorial is for my friend, Mega Synn. He was part of my alliance when I started Eve Online and was always willing to help and was one of the kindest people I knew. When he was diagnosed with a terminal illness he decided to live out the rest of his life with his family. He said his goodbyes to all of us, and gifted all his ingame belongings to each and every one of us. The Tengu he gave me is one of my most cherished possessions ingame, and it still sees use to this day.

Memorial Fleet for Luxaar Galdr
After we die, the ones who loved us will miss us… Sometimes, when a capsuleer dies in real-life, their friends embark on a memorial fleet to the Molea Memorial Monument. A group of non-combat ships fitted with cynos and festival launcher, often accompanied by a PVP escort, will embark on a final trip.
These fleets are mostly carried out unhindered, which is a form of mutual respect. Sadly, this is not always the case, and memorial fleets are sometimes the target of opposing PVP fleets.
My personal hope is that each and every fleet can go by untouched. You wouldn’t want your own memorial fleet to be disturbed, so please respect the other fleets as well.

For those that have lost people ingame or otherwise, I hope you find the strength to process the loss and look forward, and know that you are never truly alone.
